"Oscar has helped us to streamline our process considerably. His expertise with web-based survey tools has transformed how we gather data across the board. Because Oscar understands the broader picture and goals of our department, he is able to create survey tools that work well for us in gathering the data we need to support our programs."

Youth Social Marketing Guide
Overview
In 2003, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, in partnership with UC Berkeley's Center for Cities and Schools, organized a major conference for youth, parents and staff of Hope VI housing developments nationwide. The conference's goal was to build youth capacity to lead community change in their neighborhoods through social enterprise projects. They approached Oscar Wolters-Duran to partner in the creation of a curriculum and workbook to empower youth and their adult partners to use the media and publicity as a tool for bettering their community.
Solution
Oscar helped to create a partnership of experts in the area of youth marketing, including an MBA student in marketing from the Haas School of Business and Youth Sounds, a well know youth media organization. Together, they created a 20 page workbook, written in a youth voice, with extensive examples of successful youth marketing strategies. The workbook served as a basis for a series of workshops for youth and adults.
Outcome
The youth media guide and training was a popular success, and later used to implement several activities in participants' home communities. It is now available on the Young Entrepreneurs at Haas website.
